The Russian ruble is the current currency of the Russian Federation and is identified by ISO code RUB. The Bank of Russia issues ruble banknotes and coins, with the kopek as the subdivision, and manages the national monetary framework. RUB belongs to the modern post-redenomination system and must be separated from Soviet rubles and earlier Russian currency scales in historical data. The monetary unit is also distinct from the Bank of Russia as the institution responsible for issuance and policy.
