Ethics Policy
Read Currency Information’s standards for accuracy, fairness, confidentiality, conflicts, commercial independence, privacy, sensitive claims, market-related information, and accountability.
This policy explains Currency Information’s standards for sourcing, conflicts of interest, right of response, commercial separation, privacy, corrections, market-sensitive information and AI-assisted visuals.
Accuracy and Honesty
We do not knowingly publish fabricated facts, sources, quotations, documents, credentials, or events. Material claims should be supported by evidence and uncertainty should be explained. Accuracy includes the context and presentation of a claim, not only whether isolated words or numbers can be traced to a source.
Fairness and Right of Response
People and organizations facing serious factual allegations should generally be given a reasonable opportunity to respond when practical. Their response may be summarized or quoted accurately without giving them control over editorial conclusions. Seeking a response is intended to improve accuracy and context, not to transfer editorial control to the subject.
Sources and Confidentiality
Named sources are preferred. Unnamed sources are used rarely and only when justified by public value, source risk, editorial knowledge of the source’s identity, and appropriate corroboration. Confidentiality should protect a justified source relationship without shielding unsupported claims from verification.
Currency Information does not promise to reveal confidential sources to readers, advertisers, or article subjects.
Conflicts of Interest
Relevant financial, professional, institutional, personal, or commercial interests should be disclosed when they could reasonably affect reader trust. Sources should not use the publication to conceal a promotional or competitive motive. The relevant question is whether an undisclosed interest could reasonably affect how readers evaluate the work.
Commercial Independence
Advertising is separate from editorial work. Currency Information uses display and programmatic advertising, including Google AdSense, but does not currently publish sponsored articles or use affiliate links.
Paid visibility does not determine editorial ranking position.
Privacy and Harm
Editors should avoid publishing unnecessary personal information, especially where it could create disproportionate harm. Public interest, relevance, verification, and the seriousness of the subject should guide publication decisions. The amount of personal detail published should be proportionate to its relevance and the public value of including it.
Financial and Other Sensitive Claims
Currency Information does not provide personalized financial, investment, legal or tax advice. We avoid guaranteed claims about rates, returns, savings, eligibility, approval or outcomes.
Reviews and Rankings
Reviews and rankings should use relevant criteria and disclose material limitations. Advertisers cannot buy a favorable review, score, recommendation, correction, award, or ranking position.
AI
AI may be used only for selected illustrative visuals. It is not used to write articles, invent people or credentials, generate quotes, monitor sources, fact-check, or make publication decisions.
Corrections
Confirmed material factual errors are corrected in the affected article, with a correction note when the change materially affects the reader’s understanding. Concerns may be sent to corrections@currencyinformation.org.
Public Interest and Proportionality
Publication decisions should consider the importance of the information, the quality of the evidence, the potential benefit to readers, and the possibility of unnecessary harm. Curiosity, embarrassment, or competitive advantage alone may not justify publication of sensitive personal information.
Gifts, Travel, and Benefits
Gifts, discounts, free services, travel, data access, or event invitations should not determine coverage or conclusions. Material benefits connected to an article should be declined, returned, paid for, or disclosed as appropriate.
Embargoes and Advance Material
Currency Information may agree to reasonable embargoes when they allow accurate preparation and do not require misleading coverage. An embargo does not guarantee publication or favorable treatment.
Market-Sensitive Information
Editors should take particular care with unpublished information that could affect currency markets, company valuations, or financial decisions. Verification, public interest, source motives, and the risk of manipulation should be assessed before publication. Caution is necessary because inaccurate or strategically supplied information may influence readers and markets even before every fact is settled.
Plagiarism and Fabrication
Plagiarism, invented reporting, fabricated quotes, false credentials, manipulated documents, and invented sources are prohibited. AI systems cannot be used to create a false appearance of reporting.
Accountability
Readers may question sourcing, fairness, commercial labeling, or other ethical issues through the feedback and corrections channels. Currency Information may review the concern without disclosing confidential editorial information or protected sources. Reviewing a concern does not require publication of private editorial deliberations or identifying information about a protected source.
