De Nederlandsche Bank issued guilder banknotes, while coins circulated in guilders and cents under the former Dutch cash system. Euro adoption replaced NLG at a fixed conversion rate and removed the guilder from ordinary circulation. This currency must be distinguished from the Netherlands Antillean guilder, which served Caribbean territories under a separate monetary authority.
