Settlement Currency

Settlement currency is the currency actually transferred to complete a payment, securities transaction or foreign-exchange obligation. It determines which accounts are debited and credited and what liquidity is required in the final payment system or correspondent-bank chain. A transaction may first be priced or invoiced in another currency and converted before settlement. The term is therefore distinct from invoice currency, which records the amount billed rather than the unit delivered at payment.
