At African Energy Week in Cape Town, Abus Energy plans to seek producing assets and fresh capital while discussing exploration work underway in Africa.

The first deepwater well in Guinea-Bissau's history was drilled in 2024 by "آبوس إنرجي". A second is planned for 2027. In a statement published on 13 October, the company described Guinea-Bissau as a frontier exploration area and said preparations for the next well were underway.

  • "آبوس إنرجي" is a Dubai-registered upstream company wholly owned by Abu Dhabi-based "بترومال". It says it is developing assets in Guinea-Bissau and Mexico, while considering acquisitions of producing assets to grow its African portfolio. Executives are in Cape Town for African Energy Week to discuss investment and current assets. They will also discuss exploration underway in the region.

    Plans and portfolio

Acquisitions of producing assets are on the agenda, alongside a search for partners and capital. Chief executive Eyas Alhomouz and chief financial officer Anton Gedroyts are representing the company at the event, which runs from 12 to 16 October at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. The African Energy Chamber organised the forum.

The company's portfolio spans Mexico and three African countries. In Mexico, it owns an onshore field. In the Republic of the Congo, it holds interests in producing oil fields, giving it an established production base in Central Africa.

Offshore Nigeria, "آبوس إنرجي" is developing a gas project that it expects to support the country's growing energy needs. In Guinea-Bissau, the company is preparing its next deepwater exploration well for 2027. Its statement described the African portfolio as including producing fields in the Republic of the Congo, gas development offshore Nigeria and frontier exploration in Guinea-Bissau.

More than 300 ministers and senior officials were expected ahead of African Energy Week 2026. Organisers also forecast over 400 industry speakers. They projected more than 10,000 attendees and around 1,500 companies. The event focused on investment and expanding access to energy. At the opening, South Africa called for stronger African energy cooperation amid geopolitical tensions and market disruptions, Xinhua reported.

Currency Information has also covered Africa's trade commitments. That report concerned trade integration rather than energy investment.

    Meetings in Cape Town

During the forum, the executives plan to meet government representatives and national oil companies. They also expect to meet operating companies and investors. The delegation will be available throughout the week at the "صالة أبوس إنيرجي". The company said discussions would cover partnerships and capital, along with opportunities to expand Petromal's upstream portfolio across Africa.

  • "إياس الحموز", chief executive of "بترومال" and "آبوس إنرجي", described the group's commitment to Africa as long term. He said the company was ready to commit capital and technical capacity to building lasting partnerships in the continent's energy sector.
