AI Use Policy
Learn how Currency Information limits AI use to selected illustrative visuals, prohibits fabricated reporting and documentary misrepresentation, and retains human editorial control.
Currency Information uses artificial intelligence only in a limited visual capacity. Human editors remain responsible for sourcing, verification, judgment, corrections, and publication decisions. The policy draws a clear line between visual assistance and the reporting, sourcing, verification, and judgment required for editorial publication.
Permitted Use
AI may be used for selected conceptual, decorative, or AI-assisted illustrations. These visuals may help explain an abstract subject or support page design. The image should support understanding or presentation without becoming the source of a factual claim.
Uses We Do Not Permit
AI is not used for: These restrictions prevent automated output from being presented as reporting, evidence, expertise, or a human editorial decision.
- Article drafting or rewriting
- Translation or summarization
- Source monitoring or source selection
- Quote generation or interview simulation
- Fact-checking or correction decisions
- Creating unnamed sources, experts, people, credentials, or affiliations
- Making publication or ranking decisions
Visual Safeguards
AI-generated or AI-assisted images must not be presented as documentary photographs, authentic banknotes, official documents, charts from a real institution, real announcements, verified transactions, or evidence of an event. The central test is whether an ordinary reader could mistake an illustration for an authentic record of a person, object, document, transaction, or event.
AI visuals should be labeled where needed as an AI-generated illustration, AI-assisted illustration, conceptual illustration, or illustrative image.
Authentic or source-provided images should be preferred for real people, events, documents, banknotes, and coins where appropriate and legally usable.
No Fabricated Sources or Claims
AI must not be used to fabricate sources, quotes, citations, documents, officials, events, statistics, or confidential briefings. AI output is not treated as evidence.
Human Review
A human editor is responsible for deciding whether an AI-assisted visual is appropriate, accurate enough for its intended illustrative purpose, clearly labeled where necessary, and unlikely to mislead readers. Human responsibility includes deciding whether the concept, text, symbols, geography, currency details, and label are suitable for the page.

Concerns about an AI-assisted visual may be sent to editorial@currencyinformation.org. Factual concerns may also be sent to corrections@currencyinformation.org.
Editorial Rationale
The limited visual use of AI is intended to support conceptual illustration, not to replace reporting, photography, source review, or human judgment. Currency and monetary subjects often involve official documents, real banknotes, named institutions, and financially consequential claims, so visual ambiguity must be handled carefully.
Prohibited Misrepresentation
- Do not create a fake central-bank announcement, government notice, legal document, chart, or transaction record.
- Do not depict a real person as having attended an event or made a statement that did not occur.
- Do not create a banknote or coin image that readers could mistake for an authentic issue.
- Do not use AI to imply photographic evidence of unrest, fraud, counterfeiting, or financial loss.
Labels and Captions
Labels should be clear enough for an ordinary reader to understand that the image is illustrative. Suitable labels may include “AI-generated illustration,” “AI-assisted illustration,” “conceptual illustration,” or “illustrative image, not a documentary photograph.”. The label should describe the visual honestly without suggesting that its illustrative nature makes factual inaccuracies acceptable.
Corrections and Removal
An AI-assisted visual may be corrected, relabeled, replaced, or removed if it contains misleading currency symbols, false text, inaccurate geography, distorted banknote details, or another problem that affects reader understanding. The response should reflect whether the problem can be fixed through clearer labeling or requires replacement because the visual itself is misleading.
Vendor and Tool Claims
Currency Information does not claim that any AI system guarantees accuracy, originality, copyright clearance, or absence of bias. Human review remains required.
